One word: ART. We chose to name our clinic after the renowned Leonardo da Vinci because like his work, dentistry is part art and part science. At Da Vinci Dentistry we want to place greater emphasis on the art aspect of dentistry. As much as we are dentists, we like to think of ourselves also as artists. Creating a beautiful smile requires a keen artistic eye. Our dentists are especially trained in this area, whether it is creating a brand new smile or in the details of the a single tooth filling. At our Coquitlam dental clinic, the ART behind Da Vinci Dentistry is especially exemplified in our specialization in Biomimetic Restorations. Biomimetic restorations are a perfect example of the fusion of art and science in dentistry to create fillings that appears as natural as real teeth and forms a higher bond strength with teeth than conventional white fillings. We are proud to be one of only a handful of dental clinics in North America that offers Biomimetic Dentistry.
Biomimetic Dentistry is one part art and one part science. Biomimetic basically means mimicking biology so Biomimetic Dentistry focuses on reestablishing the original anatomy, design, and function of the tooth. This approach focuses on the conservative restoration of tooth structure that reflects the design of natural teeth, including the fine details of the tooth itself such as cusps and grooves (the art). It utilizes several research proven techniques to reduce the negative effects of polymerization shrinkage stress on the restoration, which can cause the fillings to fail prematurely (the science) while simultaneously increasing the bond strength of the restoration to teeth. These techniques goes above and beyond the requirements of what is considered an acceptable restoration and what is taught in dental school. When compared to more conventional white filling techniques, teeth restored with the biomimetic method are able to function better, look more natural and real, have less post-operative sensitivity, and forms stronger bonds with teeth. See here for more information.
With dental restorations, we are able to restore damaged, broken, missing or decayed teeth back to a healthy and fully functional shape. We are able to do this with several dental restoration methods including dental implants, dentures, crowns & bridges and inlays & onlays.
